Churdan residents in a two-block neighborhood were evacuated from their homes and the school was put in lock-down at mid-day Wednesday in response to a reported propane leak on the north side of town.
Greene County sheriff’s deputies, the Churdan and Jefferson fire departments and Greene County EMS responded. The evacuation was done as a precaution when a resident reported a strong propane smell. Because propane is heavier than air, it sinks to low places and creates an explosion hazard.
